The Lord saw that he did bad things. He did not stop any of the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. The son of Nebat had caused all the people in Israel to do these sins. ……Everyone in Israel had trouble that hurt them a lot. And the Lord had seen it. There was nobody to help them, whether they were slaves or free people. So the Lord saved them. The Lord had said that he would not remove the name of Israel from under the skies. So he used Jeroboam, the son of Jehoash, to do this. 2 Kings 14:24‭, ‬26‭-‬27

The Lord saw that Amaziah did right things. But he did not do everything as his ancestor David had done. Amaziah did everything as his father Joash had done it. ……It was Amaziah that beat 10,000 men from Edom in the Valley of Salt. He beat Sela in a war. He called it Joktheel, which is its name today. Then Amaziah sent men with messages to Jehoash. Jehoash was the son of Jehoahaz, who was the son of Jehu. Jehu had been the king of Israel. The message was, ‘Come and meet me.’ 2 Kings 14:3‭, ‬7‭-‬8

Then Elisha said, ‘Take the arrows.’ And he took them. And Elisha said to the king of Israel, ‘Hit the ground with them.’ The king hit the ground three times and then he stopped. The man of God was angry with Jehoash. He said, ‘You should have hit the ground 5 or 6 times. Then you would have beaten the army of Aram and you would have destroyed it completely. Now you will beat it only three times.’ ……Then Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, got back from Ben-Hadad some towns. They were towns that Hazael had taken from Jehoahaz. Jehoahaz was Jehoash’s father. Jehoash beat Ben-Hadad three times and he ruled Israel’s towns again. 2 Kings 13:18‭-‬19‭, ‬25

Then Jehoahaz prayed to the Lord again. And the Lord listened to him because of the king of Aram. The Lord knew that the king of Aram was being very cruel to Israel. The Lord sent someone to help Israel. So they were free from the power of Aram. So the people in Israel lived in their own homes, as they had done before this time. But the people in Israel still did the sins of the family of Jeroboam. They continued to do what Jeroboam had caused Israel to do. So, the Asherah pole still stood in Samaria.

Jehoiada brought the king’s son and Jehoiada put him in front of all the people. He put the crown on to his head and he gave to him a copy of the covenant. He said that Joash was king. They poured oil on to him. They hit their hands together. Then they shouted, ‘We want the king to be alive for a long time!’ 2 Kings 11:12

The Lord said to Jehu, ‘You have done well. I have seen that you have done what is right. You have done everything to Ahab’s family that I wanted someone to do. So, your descendants will be kings of Israel for 4 generations.’ 2 Kings 10:30

Jehu stood up and he went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on to Jehu’s head. He said, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you. “I am making you king over the Lord’s people in Israel. ……They hurried to get their coats. They put them under his feet on the stone steps. Then they made a sound with a trumpet. They shouted, ‘Jehu is king!’ 2 Kings 9:6‭, ‬13
